Salsa means "sauce" in Spanish. It is a hybrid musical form based on Cuban “son” and Afro-Cuban music but incorporating elements from other Latin American styles and Jazz. It developed largely in New York City beginning in the 1940s and ’50s, though it was not labeled salsa until the 1960s; it peaked in popularity in the 1970s in conjunction with the spread of Hispanic cultural identity.
Salsa is danced worldwide! Wherever you go, there will be salsaclubs and places for you to join or visit.
It is very social, and great for meeting people and making friends.
It is great fun to dance, and really brings a smile on your face due to its distinctive rhythm, frequently but not always up-tempo it spans from "hot" salsa to salsa "romantica".
The fast Salsa is really great as a workout as well! - and much more fun! :)
